Small Business configurable IT infra-structure
Especially for small to medium sized businesses, Tukcedo Services developed a complete concept for an IT infra-structure. The basis is Open Source Software, so we can keep (licensing)costs to a minimum. Compared to Windows based solutions, this infra-structure offers improved flexibility, stability, possibilities for remote monitoring and access at a much lower cost, while still allowing you to use Windows clients. Our infra-structure is completely flexible, but generally contains the following options:
  • ADSL firewall and router (access and security)
  • Squid Internet proxy (speed, security and control of internet access)
  • Samba File Server (file sharing with Windows clients)
  • NFS File Server (file sharing with Linux and Unix clients)
  • IMAP/POP3/Postfix Mail Server (complete email system)
  • FTP Server (bestanden delen met externe partijen)
  • Anti-spam en anti-virus (data security)
  • Caching Name Server (speed internet access)
  • Apache Web Server (for Internet or Intranet)
  • DHCP Server (simple configuration of new clients)
  • NTP Server (time synchronisation)
  • Emergency Server (takes over functions in cases of emergencies)
  • Backup Server (automatic handling of backup)
  • Linux and OSS based workstation (low TCO, improved functionality)
  • Remote beheer and remote monitoring

Financial administration under DOS to Cash for Linux
Cash software (See www.cash.nl) develops financial administration systems that run under DOS, Windows, a number of Unix varieties and Linux. Our experience has shown that using Cash for Linux (a relatively new product for Cash Software) still requires a lot of attention from the systems manager, especially customising it to the organisation.

We performed, amongst others, the following tasks for our customer:
  • Network login and automatic start of the application from both Windows and Linux workstations
  • Import of data from various data sources, including the proprietary DOS bookkeeping system "Profile"
  • Printing selected data from Cash via a webbrowser
  • Printing selected data via the traditional Cash menu system
  • Fully automated Cash database "maintenance"

Web Database Applications
Some of our customers have the need to store data in a structured manner and to make these data available to all within the company, or even through the Internet. Structured data storage is usually performed by Relational Databases such as Oracle, Sybase, or the Open Source databases MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Tukcedo Services creates very fast applications that are especially customised to the demands of your company and situation. These applications can be managed entirely through a web based interface. Your secure Apache webserver checks authorisations and communicates with the database to manage the data. Since the webserver is secured using the SSL protocol (which encrypts all network traffic) you could not only use your data via the internal network (Intranet), but also via the external network (Internet).

Web Based Documentation System
For customers that create large quantities of documents for internal use (e.g. technical manuals, procedural guidelines etc.) Tukcedo Services can offer a very effective web based application.

Documents may be uploaded to the server using the user's own web browser, after which the documents will be stored in a directory structure. Other users may view these documents (Word, PDF, PostScript, ASCII text) on-line or download them for further processing.

System commands via secure web page
Sometimes it is imperative that important (system) commands are issued by others than the system administrator. The administrator may simply be unavailable or may not have intimate knowledge of the application at hand. Still these commands may require "root" permissions.

Tukcedo Services offers a very robust web based solution to this problem. A secure webserver protects certain (or all) parts of the website and only allows access to those who are authorised. Within these protected parts are buttons through which the user can remotely issue a command.

Switch from ISDN to ADSL and vice versa
For companies that require continuous Internet access, ADSL (both through ISDN or an analog phone connection) is a perfect solution. ADSL combines the virtues of a fixed price per month and very reasonable performance. However, sometimes the connection may drop for a considerable amount of time. Although all Tukcedo Services ADSL installations will automatically attempt a restart in such circumstances, it is possible that the problem is in the infrastructure. In this case it's good to know that you can still switch to an alternative means of communication with your Internet Service Provider, e.g. through ISDN.

Our product "switch" is a collection of Perl scripts and a number of predefined configuration files. Your system manager can restore communications with a single command. In most cases, your users will never even notice!

The consequence of this solution is that you are obliged to keep a second subscription (but this may well be a private one) and that after a "switch" performance loss may occur due to the fact a slower medium is being used. If you've registered your domain and your fixed ADSL address is being used for Internet services (mailserver, webserver etc.), it may be necessary to take additional measures to allow access to these servers after a switch.
